Bill Athey, then a young up-and-coming batsman, was playing for the MCC against the touring team. Fielding at deep third man he took the best catch I have ever seen. He dived, both feet off the ground and held a scorching slash which would have gone for four. I was a young man sitting in front of the old Tavern. I am now an old man and the Tavern has gone!
