Jason Gillespie scoring a double century after coming in as a night watchman. Will Quick

In 2006 Jason Gillespie scored 201 not out against Bangladesh, his maiden century and the highest score by a night watchman.

I think it was circa 1961 when I travelled from Durham to London to visit Lord's for the first time. I wanted to see Norman O'Neil playing for the Aussies against Middlesex. Alas, admission took for ever and by the time I reached my seat, Norman had been 9 gone. Amazingly, 'Slasher' Mackay came in and flayed the bowling. A wonderful memory and I recall it every time I visit Lord's - a beautiful spot. Dave Smith
