Do you remember the days though when there was uncovered wickets, such as the Jim Laker 19 wicket match in 1956 when the Aussies could not cope with the spinning top? Or, the days when Sunday was a rest day and the matches started Thursday? The Laker game was at Old Trafford, I also remember the Botham match there when he came out after lunch and destroyed the Aussies with fearsome batting, lifting Lillee onto the rail track!
Strangely, the morning session had been really dour. I remember going to my car for my lunch and seriously thinking of jacking the day in as Chris Tavare had taken a scoreless root at one end. Out came Botham, arms swinging to hammer a classic century.
Then there was the fifth day at Old Trafford when the crowds went round the block and back again!
